Job summary

Pembrokeshire County Council seeks a Commercial Vehicle Technician to maintain and repair a range of heavy and light commercial vehicles and specialist plant. The role includes responding to breakdowns and preparing vehicles for MOT testing.

You will join a workshop-based team, participate in a standby rota, and help keep the depot area clean and orderly. A City & Guilds qualification and a current driving licence are essential, with suitable HGV/PSV credentials preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current driving licence.
  • Qualified to a City and Guilds Standard or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a qualified vehicle fitter.
  • Hold a HGV / PSV driving licence.
  • Electrical and electronic system repair and maintenance skills.
  • Pneumatic system repair and maintenance skills.
  • Fault diagnostic abilities.
  • Qualified MOT tester Class 4,5 and 7.
  • Teamwork and initiative required.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake the maintenance and repair on a full range of heavy and light commercial vehicles and specialist plant.
  • Respond to breakdowns and undertake recoveries at roadside or other locations.
  • Prepare and present vehicles to nominated MOT test stations.
  • Participate in standby rota to provide out-of-hours support.
  • Steam clean vehicles/parts and keep the workshop tidy.

About the job Commercial Vehicle Technician

Job Title:

Job Purpose:

Assisting to provide an efficient fleet facility and to maintain all motor vehicles and plant to a required standard by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) in a prompt and effective manner.

Principal duties and responsibilities:
  1. Undertake the maintenance and repair on a full range of heavy commercial, light commercial and specialist plant in accordance with PCC Policy and Standards, Operator Licence and Department for Transport standards.
  2. Respond to breakdowns and undertake recoveries at the roadside or other locations as operationally required according to PCC Policy.
  3. To deal with the preparation and presentation of vehicles to nominated MOT test stations.
  4. To provide key support outside of standard operational hours by participating in a standby rota
  5. To steam clean vehicles/parts as operationally required, ensuring the workshop is kept tidy and clean.
  6. To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required.
Relationships: Communication / Nature of Contacts:
  1. 1. To communicate professionally and effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders in regards to the maintenance and repair of vehicles/plant.
  2. 2. To work as part of a team to maximise the availability of vehicles and plant
  3. 1. Predominately to work in a workshop/garage environment
  4. 2. Will be required to work on the roadside in order to deal with breakdowns
  5. 3. Predominately based at Thornton Depot, Milford Haven but may be required to work at other depots or anywhere else in the County.
Person specification Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
  1. 1. Must hold a current drivers licence
