Commercial Underwriters

£35,000 DOE

Dudley - Hybrid x2 days in office

Permanent - Full Time

The Role:

In this role you will be negotiating new business terms, securing renewals, and managing changes to existing business, alongside providing an exceptional service to our brokers.

You will have a comprehensive understanding of risk analysis, the ability to analyse data, and make informed decisions.

By effectively managing risk, our Underwriters play a crucial role in contributing to the growth, new business, and profitability targets of our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Through effective trading behaviours develop, negotiate, and profitably underwrite new business terms, secure renewals, and action MTA (Mid-Term Adjustment) changes.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners and stakeholders, ensuring excellent service and a positive customer experience.
  3. Analyse data and make informed decisions to manage risk effectively.
  4. Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to established Underwriting and Governance practices including keeping accurate records and data.
  5. Collaborate with sales, other lines of business, capacity partners, operations, and underwriting management to effectively deliver the proposition.

Skills and Experience:
  1. The ability to plan, prioritise and manage own workload to meet customer needs.
  2. Exceptional attention to detail, well organised and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Knowledge of Underwriting principles and practice.
  4. A trading mindset and commercial awareness.
  5. Ability to use initiative and prioritise deadlines and activities accordingly.
  6. Good risk analysis and technical skills.
  7. Desire to continuously improve technical and trading ability.
  8. Strong negotiation and customer service skills.
  9. A great team player. Supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  10. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  11. Cert CII qualified or progression towards - desirable.
