Job description

Commercial Technology Lawyer | International Law Firm | City of London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate or Senior Associate to join the highly regarded Commercial Technology practice of a leading international law firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded technology lawyer looking to develop their career within a sophisticated, market-leading team advising major corporates, financial institutions, technology businesses and public sector organisations on some of the most complex and innovative technology transactions in the market.

The role offers genuine exposure to technology contracts, IT outsourcing, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technology, technology regulation and technology aspects of corporate transactions, alongside significant opportunities for client contact and business development.

The Commercial Technology team advises clients across a broad range of technology-driven transactions, with particular strength in IT outsourcing, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, cloud services and technology-led transformation.

You will work alongside lawyers across the wider commercial practice, including specialists in intellectual property, data privacy, strategic contracts and financial services regulation, providing an integrated offering to clients.

The team has extensive experience advising financial institutions on the regulatory and commercial implications of major technology projects, as well as advising leading technology providers, FinTech and RegTech businesses and other organisations operating at the forefront of technological change.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advising customer and supplier clients on a broad range of technology contracts, including complex IT agreements and outsourcing arrangements.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements relating to innovative and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence systems and services.
  • Advising on technology-related regulatory requirements, with particular exposure to the financial services sector and the regulatory considerations arising from AI deployment.
  • Supporting the technology aspects of corporate transactions, working closely with corporate and other specialist legal teams.
  • Advising on the key commercial, contractual and operational considerations arising from complex technology projects.
  • Developing and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with clients and providing commercially focused, pragmatic advice.
  • Contributing to business development activities, including client seminars, internal training sessions and legal / client briefing materials.
  • Taking an active role in client-facing matters and, at Senior Associate level, helping to coach, supervise and develop junior lawyers.
  • Working collaboratively across practice areas and jurisdictions to deliver an integrated service to clients.

We are keen to hear from UK-qualified solicitors or lawyers with approximately 4-7 years' PQE who have developed a strong grounding in commercial technology law. You will ideally have:

  • Experience advising on a full range of IT and technology contracts.
  • Strong experience in outsourcing and technology transactions, ideally acting for both customers and/or suppliers.
  • A good understanding of commercial and technology law, together with related legislation and regulation.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to understand complex technology arrangements and translate technical, commercial and operational issues into clear legal advice.
  • A genuine interest in technology and artificial intelligence, with practical AI experience particularly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with clients and colleagues at different levels and across different cultures.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • An enthusiasm for business development and developing a personal profile within the market.

If you are a Commercial Technology Solicitor, IT & Outsourcing Lawyer, Technology Lawyer or Commercial Solicitor with 4-7 PQE and are looking for your next career move within a leading international practice, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
