Venn Group’s specialist legal team is currently working with a well-regarded Local Authority in the Midlands to recruit a Locum Commercial Team Leader/Solicitor. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer with management capability to take on a strategic role, providing high-level legal guidance and oversight within a supportive team.

The Role:

  • Position: Locum Commercial Team Leader/Solicitor
  • Rate: Up to £80 per hour (Umbrella), depending on experience
  • Duration: Initial 3–6 months, with the potential for extension
  • Location: Midlands – Hybrid working (occasional office attendance desirable)
  • Hours: Full-time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a legal team
  • Advise on a broad range of commercial matters, including Procurement, Waste Contracts, Construction, Partnership Agreements, and Shared Services
  • Provide clear, strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders across the Council
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements
  • Engage with external partners and internal senior leadership
  • Support training of apprentices

About You:

  • Significant experience as a Commercial Lawyer, ideally within Local Government or the wider public sector
  • Previous team management or supervision experience is highly desirable
  • Expertise in procurement and commercial contract matters, including construction
  • Conveyancing experience is desirable but not essential
  • Comfortable with a hybrid working model and occasional in-office presence
