Overview

The Commercial Officer role is entry level into an evolving, dynamic and progressive Commercial function allowing for career progression. Therefore, there is no requirement to have pre-existing experience in a Commercial role, but candidates must be able to demonstrate the Key Behaviours and Competencies, including an interest in AI, and a desire to learn and develop.

Responsibilities
  • Specifically in relation to the Commercial Officer role within Capita area of responsibility, provide assistance and support to your Commercial line management where directed in relation to
  • Assisting the sales team to secure profitable and deliverable new business
  • Providing commercial support in deal shaping, negotiations & contracting
  • Reviewing pricing of existing and new business proposals to ensure they are aligned with company margin, risk and contingency provisions
  • Ensuring all customer and supplier bids/contracts are approved and reviewed in line with deal approval governance and policy prior to submission/signature
  • Identifying, managing and reporting on key commercial / legal risks (legal risks to be communicated to Legal function and ongoing appropriate support / liaison to be maintained)
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and advising on existing contract rights and obligations (with escalation to your Commercial line management where applicable)
  • Supporting change management of contracts including production of contract variations
  • Supporting production of regular contract reporting in line with governance and contract requirements
  • Ensuring that contract records are maintained and accessible as directed
  • Recording, ratifying and circulating commercial / negotiation meeting minutes when required
  • Supporting the business by owning and performing the ongoing admin of contracts (including providing required support to your commercial line management in relation to the provision of contractual templates / tool kits, and delivering notices)
  • Supporting sub-contractor relationship management
  • Supporting due diligence and MI / audit data request activities
  • A strong interest in the application of AI in support of the commercial function
Qualifications
  • An aptitude for contracting (being aware of the importance of a contract, aware of how offer and acceptance works, able to read legal documents and assess them)
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • A desire and willingness to learn and develop in a high pressure environment with many competing and differing requests
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team
  • A problem solver mentality
  • An aptitude for maths
  • Excellent computer literacy skills
  • Being a Starter – Finisher: seeing activities through to successful completion
  • Resilience and self-motivation
  • The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure
