Role Description

Role Overview and Responsibilities:

We are seeking Senior Commercial and Procurement Managers to work within the UK Defence Sector as part of our Defence Team. You will be involved in and contribute to challenges in the UK Defence Sector, in both the Public and Private sector. You will work directly with Defence Clients supporting them in delivering outcomes across the end-to-end commercial lifecycle. No two roles are the same and candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. You can expect to perform some or all of the following functions:

  • Procurement and Commercial Strategy
  • End-to-End Contract Management
  • Risk and Performance Management
  • Negotiation and Continuous Improvement
  • Governance and Compliance with internal policy and legal frameworks
  • Business Analysis and Problem Solving

Role Objectives
  • Service Excellence: creating and deploying market leading capability to optimise client satisfaction, supported by robust methodologies and skilled people.
  • Risk and Performance Management: identify, assess, and mitigate project risks with robust governance.
  • Business Transformation and Stakeholder Engagement: engage with stakeholders to support transformation and efficiency initiatives.
  • Leadership: formal and informal leadership through coaching, line management, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Applied knowledge of procurement principles and practices with experience in procurement, contract management and/or contract placement (sourcing).
  • Ability to identify the most suitable commercial approach, including assessing trade-offs and risk mitigation to achieve the best outcome.
  • Understanding and applying programme, portfolio and project management tools.
  • Taking ownership of decisions at tender evaluation and applying commercial expertise accordingly.
  • Developing and assuring business cases, commercial strategies, and contracting approaches.
  • Developing and implementing effective contract and supplier management strategies to maximise value and drive innovation.
  • Proactively monitor supplier performance and drive value, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading teams and providing strategic direction.
  • Experience dealing with clients on complex issues and chairing meetings with senior stakeholders.
  • Supplier Relationship Management and Category Management.
Qualifications

Desirable Experience:

  • Background in Government Procurement processes (Single Source and Competitive).
  • Experience with New Engineering Contract (NEC), FIDIC and/or Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT).

Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification(s) in Business, Procurement/Supply Chain Management, Law, Project Management or similar, or equivalent experience.
  • Training or experience in Defence and Security Public Contracting Regulations (DSPCR), Public Contract Regulations (PCR) and/or the Procurement Act 2023.
Additional Information

Working in teams/site attendance: Turner & Townsend supports hybrid working. You may be on client sites or Turner & Townsend offices about 60% of the time, subject to business and client needs.
