The opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Commercial Manager to join our dynamic team on a £100m new build vaccine research centre in Oxford.

What will the role of Commercial Manager look like?
  1. Sole commercial responsibility for a project or a section of a project.
  2. Ensure interim applications for payment and certifications are issued and agreed.
  3. Manage, administer, and settle subcontractor accounts, including those delegated to your team.
  4. Prepare and manage claims.
  5. Manage staff flexibly to provide an effective commercial service for the business.
  6. Lead the commercial team, including identifying and communicating development and training needs, staff appraisal, retention, and support.
  7. Negotiate with clients' representatives, subcontractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
  8. Advise on contractual implications of planned actions and manage commercial risks within projects.
  9. Prepare monthly contract review reports, communicate key risks, opportunities, and changes transparently and timely, and issue weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
  10. Ensure the contractual chain between head contract and supply chain is established and maintained for responsible projects.
  11. Prepare monthly management accounts and provide contractual and commercial input into the Project Execution Plan.
  12. Establish the project 'budget to build' from contract award promptly.
  13. Implement change control processes and agreements timely through methods to identify and manage change.
  14. Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
  15. Provide contractual and commercial support for work winning.
  16. Undertake the integrated role of package manager on a project if appointed.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
  1. Experience delivering large projects autonomously or managing an area (£25m) of a larger project.
  2. Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
  3. Member of RICS or working towards MRICS status.
  4. JCT experience is preferable.
