Rail sector - North - Manchester team.

We provide cost management services from contract signature and award to completion of projects in various sectors. We advise on the issuance of certificates and the preparation of cost control and reporting services.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Preparing contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses, and assisting formal execution by the appropriate parties.
  • Advising on the administration of the terms of the building contract.
  • Measuring and providing valuations of the work carried out and adjusting variations in accordance with the contract terms and in agreement with the contractor.
  • Providing cost control and reporting services during the contract.
  • Preparing financial reports for the client in the required format and frequency.
  • Identifying all costs related to design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
  • Participating in the evaluation of claims for delay and additional costs made by contractors and subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Advising on the issuance of certificates of practical completion and ensuring final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
  • Advising on the issuance of certificates of making good defects and final completion according to project requirements.
  • Delivering system and process improvements, driving transformational change.
  • Working collaboratively towards the goal of net zero carbon transition, including managing associated emissions and reductions during project delivery.

You'll need to have:

  • Experience delivering service excellence to clients.
  • Proven experience in commercial management.
  • Understanding of costs, timescales, and risks of projects.
  • Experience in risk management and change control management.
  • Knowledge of different contract types.
  • Negotiation, analytical, and digital skills.
  • A degree in quantity surveying or cost management (or equivalent).
  • Relevant technical qualifications/certifications.
  • Experience with various contract forms.
  • Ability to administer and manage contracts effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Stakeholder management skills.
  • Relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills for report writing, negotiation, and relationship building.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills for resolving cost, contract, and procurement issues.
  • Self-awareness regarding strengths and weaknesses, with a willingness to learn and seek support.

You'll also have:

  • Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications.
  • Professional membership or working towards it (e.g., MRICS/RICS or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC contract forms.
  • Experience with Capex vs. Opex cost analysis.
  • Knowledge of value engineering, lifecycle costing, contract law, and contractual frameworks.
  • Participation in initiatives that add value, such as BIM.
  • Commitment to inclusivity.
  • Understanding of sustainability, social value, and carbon reduction issues.
  • Awareness of industry best practices.
