The role:

The Procurement function's purpose is to balance opportunity, risk, and responsibility to drive better business outcomes through the third-party supply chain. The Director of Procurement reports to the Director of Finance Transformation, Operations, and Data within the Finance function. The aim is to protect the business against commercial, operational, and regulatory risks while delivering value for money for business budget holders.

The role holder will work closely with the Senior Procurement Manager to ensure a cohesive partnership with Business Leaders within specific Business Units.

The Procurement team focuses on:

  1. Leading and driving third-party engagements supporting business units, building partnerships, executing contracts, and optimizing costs and innovation.
  2. Providing Business Partnering Services for procurement activities, improving engagement, and delivering savings and value through third-party solutions.

Building relationships across the organization is key to establishing the operating model and procurement best practices. These relationships, combined with commercial insights, will help drive improvements and achieve procurement excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and delivering procurement strategies for indirect spend, driving efficiencies and savings.
  • Providing excellent procurement services to internal stakeholders.
  • Managing supplier relationships during procurement projects.
  • Aligning supply chains with business strategies.
  • Delivering procurement projects that generate efficiencies and savings.
  • Monitoring market trends to deliver value and innovative solutions.
  • Building strong relationships with central teams such as IT Security, Legal, and Financial Crime.
  • Driving continuous improvement within the procurement team and function.

You will have:

  • Knowledge of strategic procurement, category management, financial risks, and the indirect supply chain.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and insights.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices and external networks.
  • Understanding of the UK indirect supplier market.
  • Experience analyzing complex data to support decision-making.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, delivering savings.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in a matrix or virtual team environment.
  • Experience in financial services or services-based procurement functions.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of financial services regulations relevant to the UK.
  • Professional qualifications such as MCIPS or an MBA.
