Job summary

Bridgestaff Group is recruiting an experienced Commercial Manager for a growing South Wales construction business. You will own the commercial function, lead a team of Quantity Surveyors, and drive profitability while shaping commercial strategy and processes.

The role covers pre-contract tendering through final accounts, with collaboration across senior management and operations to deliver financial and contractual objectives.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in commercial management within the construction industry.
• Strong background in quantity surveying and contract management.

• Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts essential.

The Opportunity

Bridgestaff Group is working on behalf of a growing construction business in South Wales to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute construction professional to take ownership of the commercial function, lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and play a pivotal role in driving profitability, improving processes and supporting the company's continued growth.

You will oversee the full commercial lifecycle, from pre-contract tendering and procurement through to final accounts, while working closely with senior management and operational teams to strengthen commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors.
• Oversee the full commercial lifecycle of construction projects, from pre-contract through to final account.
• Implement and improve commercial processes, systems and reporting procedures across the business.
• Manage contractual administration, including JCT and NEC forms of contract.
• Monitor project costs, margins, cash flow, variations and overall commercial performance.
• Identify and mitigate commercial risks while maximising contractual entitlements and profitability.
• Oversee subcontractor procurement, valuations, payments and final account negotiations.
• Review cost reports, financial forecasts and commercial performance across projects.
• Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure projects meet financial and contractual objectives.
• Provide commercial guidance and support to project teams and senior leadership.
• Drive consistency, accountability and best practice throughout the commercial function.
• Contribute to business planning, commercial strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

• Significant experience in commercial management within the construction industry.
• A strong background in quantity surveying and construction contract management.
• Previous experience leading, managing or developing a team of commercial professionals.
• Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Experience managing projects from pre-contract stage through to final account.
• A proven ability to manage commercial risk, protect margins and improve profitability.
• Excellent negotiation, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong financial reporting, forecasting and analytical capabilities.
• The ability to implement effective processes and influence commercial decision-making.
• A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
