Job description

Tasks
  • Collate, analyse & challenge Cost/Value Reports and forecasts as required, then implement required actions.
  • Design and implement a commercial strategy for their portfolio and tenders with the assistance of their functional manager and Technical and Operational counterparts.
  • Ensure that the Commercial Practitioners administer the contracts correctly in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify, mitigate and manage risk & opportunities for the portfolio of work.
  • Be responsible, where required, to ensure that a review of all contractual obligations and commercial risks is carried out prior to tender submissions and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.
  • Maximise the cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production & improvement plans for all projects.
  • Identify and advise on insurance-related issues, including prompt notification of potential claims and ensuring all insurance-related contractual requirements are implemented and managed.
  • Ensure a margin improvement plan/strategy exists on each project, challenge, influence, and monitor the strategy.
  • Engage in work-winning duties as required, including proactive release of team members and attendance at client meetings.
  • Deliver presentations for tender interviews.
  • Assist in the development of Joint Venture Agreements and arrangements where appropriate.
  • Assist in the procurement of PCGs, Bonds, and Warranties and manage their successful implementation.
  • Involve in contract negotiations with the client, including highlighting of business risk parameters.
  • Ensure the commercial team performs optimally for the portfolio, continually reviewing margin gains, efficiency, resource forecasting, and risk management.
  • Manage client and sub-contractor disputes, ensuring timely contractual notices.
  • Manage and influence the sub-contract and consultant procurement process, ensuring prompt contract issuance, supporting negotiations, and reviewing all contracts.
  • Support in managing sub-contract and consultant accounts, including reviewing and negotiating final accounts.
  • Support the management and pricing of client changes and variations, aiming to maximize value.
  • Monitor and manage project costs and values in real-time, maintaining detailed forecasts reported monthly.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting monthly project reviews.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Commercial Director, including emergency support for peers and managers.
  • Manage the performance of all employees under your supervision in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
Qualifications
  • HND/Degree qualification.
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent.
  • CSCS Card (relevant type). All roles are expected to have the relevant competency skills cards for site-based work.
  • Commercially astute with substantial proven experience in a commercial role within the construction industry.
  • Expert knowledge of standard forms of contract and standard methods of measurement.
  • Understanding of programming techniques and project controls.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
