Are you a construction Commercial Manager looking for a new opportunity?

Our Client has a requirement for a Commercial Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester.

Role Purpose:

The Commercial Manager will:

  • Lead and manage the project’s commercial team.
  • Take ownership of commercial strategy, governance, and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with company and contract requirements at all times.
  • Promote a collaborative working culture and uphold company values.

You will be self-motivated, disciplined, commercially astute and able to identify, analyse, and develop responses to commercial risks. You will also be a strong communicator, confident in stakeholder engagement, and a proactive problem-solver.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial input at work-winning stage.
  • Ensure adequate commercial resourcing of the project team.
  • Implement and oversee commercial procedures, ensuring compliance with company and contract requirements.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and address contractual issues promptly.
  • Manage and report on insurances relevant to the project.
  • Lead and manage commercial personnel, including:
    • Main contract management & administration
    • Supply chain management & contract administration
    • Commercial document control
    • Cost capture, control, and reporting (including CLR completion)
    • Programme management
    • Cash management
  • Develop staff skills and competencies for successful succession planning.
  • Liaise and negotiate with the customer’s commercial and/or project team.
  • Establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and issue periodic valuations and reports in line with deadlines.
  • Provide commercial advice to the Contract Leader and/or Sector Management Team.
  • Work alongside other Commercial Managers to ensure consistency across the business.
  • Review value management and advise on risk management strategies.
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure all HSE risks are raised with the Contract Leader or Project Manager.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
  • Practical, logical, and methodical working approach.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative, strategic mindset.
  • Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies.
  • Proven negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Solid legal, contractual, and construction knowledge.
  • Full Membership of RICS or CICES.
  • 7+ years post-graduate commercial experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience in office management systems, filing, document control, and distribution.
  • Skilled in preparing reports, payment certificates, and interim/closeout financial reports.
  • Experience in strategic objective delivery and change programme implementation.
  • Additional professional memberships or qualifications.
