This role will be based in Kent

The role

We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager (Quantity Surveyor) to join our regional Construction business as part of our public sector project team. All projects are currently in a preconstruction phase, with a start on site late 2025. During initial preconstruction phase this role will need to be based in one of our offices then will move to site when the project goes live.

What will you do
  1. Procurement of the project in accordance with approved strategy, ensuring that orders are fully scoped, bought at best value and are correctly contracted in accordance with limits of authority.
  2. Procurement and preparing contracts for execution for Early Works and Surveys, in line with limits of authority.
  3. Managing supply chain relationships at package level to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to procurement.
  4. Contributes to the robust implementation and management of commercial, legal, insurance and risk controls at package level feeding into the wider management of the Project (including but not limited to OLi and PMTR/PID's).
  5. Accurate commercial reporting and contract administration with focus on trade packages and other supply orders. This includes (but is not limited to) interim payments, management of change accounts, cashflows, final accounting and contract administration.
  6. You will ensure that the project is delivered in a safe, timely, efficient and sustainable manner, whilst achieving project targets, meeting client expectations and enhancing the reputation of the business.
  7. Production of Tender Recommendation Reports and Contract Sum Analysis.
  8. Preparation of Subcontracts for execution in line with limits of authority.
  9. Maintains detailed prelim forecasts and actual costs and intervenes were negative trends identified.
  10. Reports accurately to the monthly forecast final account.
  11. Manages cash flow to the benefit of the project and business.
  12. Supports the project manager to manage project risk and opportunities.
  13. Manages the change process in accordance with the contract.
  14. Prepares bid documentation to ensure a fully defined tender.
You will bring
  1. Degree in Quantity Surveying or other construction related degree.
  2. Holds or working towards RICS or CIOB.
  3. Experience working for a reputable main contractor as a commercial manager or quantity surveyor.
  4. Tendering subcontract works packages of medium to high value.
  5. Able to prepare subcontract documentation ready for engrossment by external parties.
  6. Advanced word-processing, Excel spreadsheet packages and cost management software.
  7. Good understanding of building technology / construction methods.
  8. Ability to read drawings and construction design information.
  9. Valuing interim applications.
  10. Change management in accordance with the contract.
  11. Preparation of internal monthly cost reports / cost to complete forecasts.
  12. Measurement and valuation techniques.
  13. NEC4 Contract experience and knowledge.
