Job summary

East London is seeking a Commercial Manager for a leading main contractor to oversee a £50m division, leading a team of five Quantity Surveyors and driving financial performance from tender through final account. The role combines line-management, financial control, procurement oversight and contract support across multiple live projects in leisure, commercial, education and healthcare sectors.

A strong main-contractor background and proven ability to mentor QS professionals are essential.

Qualifications

• Commercial Manager or experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor.
• Strong main-contractor background.
• Proven experience managing and developing Quantity Surveyors.
• Confident CVRs, cashflow, forecasting, procurement and divisional reporting.
• Strong contractual knowledge and experience supporting claims or disputes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a commercial team of five Quantity Surveyors.
• Review live projects with operational teams, identifying financial risks, opportunities and potential margin improvements.
• Oversee procurement, subcontractor selection, buying gains and supply-chain performance.
• Manage monthly cost reporting, billing projections, accrued income and cash collection.
• Support contractual matters, claims and disputes alongside the operational and legal teams.
• Work with the estimating team to ensure live delivery costs and commercial lessons are reflected in future tenders.
• Maintain accurate reporting across projects ranging from smaller works through to major schemes.

Commercial Manager | Main Contractor | East London | Up to £100,000 Plus £10,000 Package

I'm working with an established and growing main contractor who are looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to take responsibility for the commercial performance of a division turning over approximately £50m annually.

The division currently has five Quantity Surveyors, making this a genuine commercial leadership role combining team management, financial control and oversight of projects from tender through to final account.

The Role

• Lead, manage and develop a commercial team of five Quantity Surveyors
• Review live projects with operational teams, identifying financial risks, opportunities and potential margin improvements

Package

• Salary up to £100,000+, DoE + £10,000 flexible package allowance
