Commercial Manager - Civil Engineering

Our client, a specialist Civil Engineering contracting business based in West Sussex, is seeking a Commercial Manager to join their team. The company operates across various sectors including water, waste water, infrastructure, and coastal protection, managing projects from conception through to delivery within the Heavy Civil Engineering Sector.

The Commercial Manager will oversee all commercial activities within the Commercial and Procurement Departments, aiming to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities. Key responsibilities include:

1. Providing insights on cost minimization and value maximization to ensure profitability and customer satisfaction.
2. Managing subcontract procurement in accordance with company procedures.
3. Advising on contract conditions at tender and post-contract stages.
4. Minimizing financial risks to the business.
5. Overseeing purchasing, hiring, and replacement of plant and vehicles to meet company needs.
6. Ensuring procurement is cost-effective, compliant with standards, and timely.
7. Monitoring resources and developing plans for current and future business needs.
8. Promoting and achieving company and project KPIs.
9. Reporting to the Board of Directors and representing them in all activities with Divisional Managers.

Candidate requirements:

1. Proven experience in a Managing QS or Commercial Management role.
2. At least 10 years of experience in Civil Engineering Construction, preferably within marine and/or water sectors.
3. Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) membership (desirable).
4. Experience in dispute resolution.
5. Financial management skills, including CVRs and financial reporting.
6. Thorough understanding of contracts such as NEC3, NEC4, ECC, ICE, and JCT.
7. Knowledge of tendering and procurement processes.
8. Understanding of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 management systems.
