An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) as a Commercial Manager in one of the business unit Commercial teams. This role is full-time based in Bristol or Gosport depending on the team in which you are recruited into.

BDUK comprises 3 business units: Fixed Wing, Vertical Lift and Digital. Each business unit commercial team is led by a Head of Commercial who reports to the Commercial Director.

Each business unit commercial team supports contracts within the portfolio, mainly long-term support services to Boeing platforms operated by UK armed forces, information services, and synthetic training services. Business growth includes on-contract change and new bids and proposals in line with company strategy. As a subsidiary of The Boeing Company, our portfolio involves intercompany arrangements supporting our contracts and other Boeing contracts with non-UK customers. Our UK contracts are mainly Single Source Contracts, but not exclusively, and we pursue new campaigns involving competitive tendering.

About the role:

This is a mid-level, non-line management role. Principal responsibilities include:

  1. Lead and participate in proposal development, negotiation, and execution of contractual agreements, including amendments, with signature authority.
  2. Draft, review, interpret, and administer terms and conditions and other legally binding agreements.
  3. Support internal coordination across functions (programme, finance, legal) to deliver commercial solutions aligned with strategic goals.
  4. Anticipate, interpret, and mitigate commercial risks; summarize contractual issues and propose risk-aware solutions.
  5. Maintain effective commercial governance, ensuring compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.
  6. Lead or support development and review of Statements of Work.
  7. Administer contracts and authorize work per contractual and corporate policies.
  8. Apply value-for-money principles to support customer needs while achieving business objectives.

Our portfolios feature energetic, motivated teams working together to serve the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). Our main business involves Single Source Contract Regulations; understanding and applying these is vital, as is developing positive relationships with customers and stakeholders. The Commercial function adds value throughout the contract lifecycle.

In this role, you will support the portfolio, working with colleagues across teams in a dynamic environment. Tasks include contract management, providing commercial support, exercising business judgment, leading contract change proposals, and supporting strategic growth opportunities.

As a mid-level team member, you will work autonomously with minimal supervision, contributing to wider functions and business improvement. You will develop a broad range of Commercial skills and take on authority in commercial topics to benefit your peers.

A Commercial Manager should understand programme & financial contractual performance, develop recommendations, influence decisions, and maintain effective relationships with delivery teams and customers.

In a matrix organization, Commercial roles are influential business partners, requiring experience in Contract Formation, Management Systems, Negotiation, Risk & Opportunity Management, Business Case Development, and knowledge of applicable legislation and standards.

Key expectations include:

  • Responsibility for all commercial tasks within your scope.
  • Understanding the programme environment, risks, and opportunities beyond your scope.
  • Proactively identifying and raising risks/issues early.
  • Delivering high-quality products and maintaining high standards.
  • Applying value-for-money principles aligned with business goals.
  • Demonstrating analytical skills, financial acumen, effective communication, and customer relationship management.
  • Making informed decisions, ensuring first-time quality, and navigating defence contracting terms.
  • Responding effectively in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Working independently and in teams, with a positive attitude and adaptability.

Qualifications:

  • WCC (formerly IACCM) qualification or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a multinational environment, with UK defence expertise preferred.

Additional notes:

  • Employer will not sponsor visas.
  • Legal right to work in the UK is required.
  • UK security clearance is required; UK residency is necessary to obtain it.
  • Relocation is at candidate’s expense; no relocation assistance offered.
