Description
As a Commercial Manager, you will efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the business, continually striving for improvement in profit margins and our working capital position. You will build and lead a high-performing team with significant opportunities for development through business growth; consistently driving a culture of margin improvement. You will be a key figure in managing and owning client relationships to maximize our commercial position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the achievement of annual (and monthly) commercial objectives and targets in line with operations managers; set the annual contract plan and monitor/deliver performance against it.
  • Actively manage and participate in winning work; oversee process management and negotiate key contract terms for new and existing contracts to minimize business risk and maximize returns.
  • Develop new processes for cost & value capture, subcontractor relationships, weekly profit and loss evaluation, and accuracy of application processes.
  • Control value recovery, billing, and WIP identification.
  • Proactively manage cash inflow and outflow, including identification and delivery of improvements.
  • Implement and drive weekly and monthly performance reviews, taking accountability for performance, interrogating results, and ensuring appropriate actions are in place to address any underperformance.
  • Ensure contract compliance from operational and commercial perspectives and promote this as part of the business culture; run commercial workshops as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines, both internal and client-enforced.

Experience and Qualifications

Key Experience

  • Management of subcontractors.
  • Leadership of multidisciplinary teams (Quantity Surveyors, Assistant QS’s, Commercial Assistants).
  • Experience with high-volume activity contracts.
  • Management and production of cost-value reconciliations (Weekly P&L statements).
  • Experience with new contracts and change management.
  • Commercial management of contracts exceeding £15m annually, preferably with multiple contracts.
  • Development of relationships with senior stakeholders (internal and customer).
  • Identification of process and performance gaps and resolution through improvements.

Technical Competencies

  • Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • Sound knowledge of contracts.
  • Awareness of industry issues.
  • Good health, safety, and environmental awareness.
