Commercial Manager
Location - Abingdon


My client is looking for a Commercial Manager who will be responsible for the effective and efficient running of commercial matters, so that the client has the ability to achieve optimum recovery and cashflow, whilst also developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the Client. Experience of working on highways/street lighting schemes would be beneficial.

Key Outcomes:
  1. Achieve optimum recovery and cash flow on all projects whilst also developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the Client.
    Measure: Profitability of the contract.
  2. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Clients and Sub-Contractors and other staff members.
    Measure: Limited or zero disputes and conflict.
  3. Lead on keeping costs to a minimum on the contracts so that the optimum margins can be made on each contract. This includes both supply-chain subbies and material purchase review.
    Measure: Profit Margins.
  4. All disputes during Projects are resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
    Measure: Good relations maintained with Clients and no exposure or adverse PR.
Key Accountabilities:
  1. Leadership of the Commercial department.
  2. Leadership role in bringing in new work by building and maintaining strong Client relationships.
  3. Developing opportunities to get close to Clients when tender opportunities come in.
  4. Leading on commercial reviews for tenders, undertaking a comprehensive review of the risks, opportunities and quality issues for that are inherent in the potential contract.
  5. Ensuring that fit for purpose systems and processes are built to support every contract.
  6. Overseeing the Sub-Contractor procurement for each project.
  7. Leading role in monitoring and developing the Business Plan.
  8. Overseeing the tendering and business within to ensure this is cost effective.
  9. Negotiation of business contracts with Clients, including presentations to Clients.
  10. Developing Client relationships and marketing the business.
  11. Trouble shooting complex contractual issues.
  12. Responsible for accurate commercial reporting and forecasting, paying particular attention to risks and opportunities.
  13. Developing the Commercial team, ensuring they develop the required Commercial skills to support.
