Job description

Salary: Negotiable + Profit Share
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Colchester

UK Plumbing Supplies is the UK's largest independent plumbing, heating and bathroom merchants, with more than 310 sites nationwide.

Our Commercial team sits at the centre of a business with significant buying power, but our approach is far from traditional. Unlike a traditionally centralised business, our sites operate as individual profit centres with the autonomy to make their own commercial decisions based on their customers and local markets.

The opportunities you negotiate aren't simply rolled out across the business and imposed on our sites. You'll need to understand the market, spot opportunities that can genuinely add value and identify where they are likely to have the greatest commercial impact.

From negotiating the agreement to developing the commercial proposition, arranging supplier and manufacturer engagement and ensuring the right Product Files and information are in place, your role is to make those opportunities available to the people best placed to use them.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Negotiate and manage commercial agreements with key suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Identify products, ranges, suppliers and commercial opportunities that could add value across UK Plumbing Supplies.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure commercial opportunities are properly communicated to relevant sites.
  • Work closely with the Product File team to ensure sites have clear and useful product, pricing and commercial information.
  • Develop pricing structures and commercial arrangements that help our sites trade competitively while protecting profitability.
  • Support site managers, estimators and other teams with commercial queries and pricing requirements.
  • Review and develop existing supplier agreements, identifying opportunities to improve commercial terms and create additional value.
  • Attend supplier meetings, industry events and exhibitions to develop relationships and identify new opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director and wider Commercial team on major negotiations and commercial initiatives.
  • Support and develop less experienced members of the Commercial team where appropriate.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with significant experience working with suppliers, products and commercial agreements.

You could currently be working in a Commercial, Procurement, Buying, Product Management or Supplier Management role, with experience within plumbing and heating, merchanting, building products or a closely related industry also being particularly beneficial.

We're particularly interested in someone who has experience in any of the following:

  • Negotiating complex commercial agreements and build strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Understanding the detail behind commercial terms and agreements, ensuring they create genuine value for the business.
  • Identifying opportunities before they become obvious, whether through new suppliers, products, commercial agreements or developments within the market.
  • Assessing where an opportunity is likely to be most commercially relevant
  • Understanding how products, pricing and commercial agreements translate into profitable trading at site level.
  • Thinking beyond the initial negotiation and understand what needs to happen for an opportunity to be successfully adopted across the business.
  • Working with suppliers, manufacturers and internal teams to ensure the right product and commercial information is available to our sites.
  • Building credibility with senior supplier contacts and negotiating confidently on behalf of a large, complex business.
What You’ll Get:
  • Completive salary + Profit Share
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • A senior commercial role with responsibility for significant supplier relationships.
  • The opportunity to influence commercial opportunities across the UK's largest independent plumbing, heating and bathroom merchants.

If you have strong commercial experience, a deep understanding of suppliers and products and can spot the opportunities that others might miss, we'd like to hear from you.
