Job summary

QED Legal Recruitment Limited seeks a Commercial Legal Counsel in Gloucestershire for an in-house, hybrid position. You will draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts and agreements, advise on supplier, customer and service contracts, and help manage legal risk while supporting commercial objectives.

Commercial Legal Counsel Gloucestershire | In-house | Hybrid Working

The Opportunity

An established and growing business is looking to appoint a Commercial Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is an opportunity for a commercially minded solicitor to work closely with the wider business, providing practical legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters. The role will involve supporting business operations, reviewing and negotiating contracts, and helping colleagues manage legal risk while achieving their commercial objectives. Working in a varied in-house environment, you will have the opportunity to build strong relationships across the business, take ownership of a range of legal matters and contribute to the ongoing development of the legal function.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.
• Advising on supplier, customer and service agreements, including software and technology-related contracts where relevant.
• Providing clear, commercially focused legal advice to colleagues across the business.
• Supporting matters involving intellectual property, data protection and contractual risk.
• Assisting with the management of disputes and other general legal matters as they arise.
• Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure contracts and commercial arrangements support the needs of the business.
• Helping to identify and manage legal risks while taking a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.

About You

The successful candidate is likely to be a qualified solicitor with experience in commercial contracts, either in-house or within private practice, who is keen to develop their career in a broad commercial role. You will have strong drafting and negotiation skills, sound commercial judgement and the confidence to work with stakeholders at different levels of the business. Just as importantly, you will be approachable, practical and comfortable balancing legal risk with commercial priorities. The ability to explain legal issues clearly and build effective working relationships will be key.
