Qualifications

Job Description

An exciting commercial QS opportunity has arisen for an award-winning, family-friendly Facade and Building Envelope contractor based near Poole. They are known for their excellent service and aftercare, supplying and installing various types of facades and external envelope products within the public sector, including data centres, MOD projects, train stations, and ongoing work with HS2 covering the south of England, including the London region.

Projects vary from £25,000 to over £3 million.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Being commercially responsible for 3-4 projects simultaneously.
  2. Office-based role with occasional site visits mainly in London, Home Counties, and South of England.
  3. Working with a small, friendly surveying team.
  4. Cost reporting, regular reconciliation, and forecasting.
  5. Tracking monthly application figures and informing relevant departments of potential budgets and financial constraints.
  6. Reviewing labour schedules against site progress.
  7. Maintaining chronological records of site progress and using this information for payment applications.
  8. Pricing variations and managing changes within subcontract parameters.
  9. Reviewing drawings, comparing construction and tender drawings, and noting changes.
  10. Developing collaborative relationships with clients, client representatives, and supply chain partners.
  11. Monitoring site progress, recording it, and transferring data to monthly payment applications, noting any contract scope changes.
  12. Managing multiple sub-contracts and contractors.
  13. Preparing sub-subcontract orders, including enquiry and pricing documentation.
  14. Ensuring timely submissions to maximize profit and cash flow.
  15. Identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  16. Understanding contractual matters to protect company interests.
  17. Maintaining good communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
  • Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (degree level or equivalent, 2:1 or above).
  • Full driving license.
  • CSCS card is ideal but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of construction principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Good communication skills.
