Key responsibilities:

A list of the main duties and expected outcomes of the role:
  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a broad spectrum of commercial and financial agreements. This includes but is not limited to broker agreements, mission sharing and netting agreements, terms of business, confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, placing agreements, intra-group agreements, bank guarantees, clearing, custody and collateral agreements, IT and marketing agreements.
  • Providing proactive and pragmatic legal advice on a variety of business matters, helping drive commercial decisions while ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Ensuring that all contracts and agreements are aligned with current industry standards, applicable laws, and internal policies. Supporting the business in identifying and addressing potential legal risks in transactions, including regulatory risks and compliance requirements.
  • Periodically advising on corporate projects, which may include new offices, reorganizations, and joint ventures.
  • Collaborating with key internal stakeholders (including senior management, finance, operations, and compliance teams) and external service providers to ensure all legal queries and documentation reflect the business objectives and comply with relevant regulatory requirements and laws. Communicating complex legal concepts in a clear and accessible manner to non-legal colleagues.

Qualifications


Skills / experience required:

  • English-qualified lawyer with a minimum of 1 year post-qualification experience in commercial law, ideally with exposure to financial services and/or the investment banking sector. Would also suit a foreign commonwealth lawyer of equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in working in-house or private practice will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The candidate will be required to interact with various business units, including front and back office teams. An ability to build rapport, influence decisions, and provide clear legal guidance to stakeholders at all levels is critical.
  • Good academics required.
  • Shares knowledge/experience with the team.
  • Good reporting skills / confidence to clarify instructions.
