Commercial IP Associate – Birmingham

A well-established national law firm with a strong presence across the UK is looking to expand its Commercial team. Known for its modern and forward-thinking approach, this firm advises a diverse client base ranging from household names to fast-growing innovators. This is an excellent opportunity for a Commercial Associate with at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience and a background in intellectual property matters to join a high-performing and friendly team. You will be involved in a broad mix of commercial and IP-related work, with the chance to build lasting relationships with clients in sectors such as technology, fashion and retail. The firm places a strong emphasis on personal development, client contact and high-quality legal work within a supportive and flexible working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advising on a variety of IP matters, including copyright, trade marks and brand protection
  2. Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements involving IP and related rights
  3. Supporting clients on advertising, marketing and consumer law compliance
  4. Collaborating with colleagues across commercial, litigation and corporate teams on cross-disciplinary matters
  5. Playing a role in business development initiatives and client relationship management
  6. Keeping up to date with changes in relevant legislation and market trends
  7. Assisting in the training and development of junior team members, where appropriate

Requirements:

  1. A qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial and IP law
  2. Solid understanding of intellectual property rights and how they apply within commercial contexts
  3. Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with an IP element
  4. Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  5. Commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused advice
  6. A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues across the wider team
  7. A proactive attitude and enthusiasm for client engagement and development
