Qualifications

Job Role: Commercial Gas Engineer

Location: HMP Highpoint, Stradishall, Newmarket, CB8 9YG

Salary: £41,000 per annum

Contract: Full-time / Permanent

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Commercial Gas Engineer to join our team at HMP Highpoint, a Category C adult/male prison. Join a supportive team working Monday to Sunday to create a safe and nurturing environment. HMP Highpoint operates as a self-contained facility, requiring hundreds of staff to maintain its functions. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, you will contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the prison, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As an Engineer – Combustion, you will work alongside experienced colleagues—including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners, and administrators—all committed to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment. Requirements:
  • At least two years of experience as a heating or combustion engineer, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements

  • Experience with commercial catering gas appliances (beneficial)
  • Qualified plumber (C&G 6035, C&G 6189, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • CCN1 - Core domestic gas safety certificate
  • COCN1 - Core commercial gas safety certificate
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
