Job Role: Commercial Gas Engineer

Location: HMP Highpoint, Stradishall, Newmarket, CB8 9YG

Salary: £41,818.21

Contract: Full-time/Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated Commercial Gas Engineer to join our team at HMP Highpoint, a Category C adult prison.

HMP Highpoint operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, families, and the wider community.

As an Engineer - Combustion, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS. Candidates should have:

  1. At least two years’ experience as a heating or combustion engineer or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements.
  3. Familiarity with Gas Safe (installation and use) regulations 1998 and related standards.
  4. Experience with commercial catering gas appliances is beneficial.
  5. Qualifications including C&G 6035 or 6189 in Plumbing, NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
  6. Core domestic (CCN1) and commercial (COCN1) gas safety certificates.
  7. Good health and safety knowledge.
  8. Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
