Why join us

Joining the Commercial Finance team at Sainsbury's offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of driving financial performance and shaping the strategic direction of a leading retail company. As a Finance Manager for Commercial Programmes & Operations, you will collaborate with senior stakeholders, lead key initiatives, and play a pivotal role in delivering economic benefits across the business. With a focus on innovation, continuous learning, and impactful decision-making, this role provides a dynamic environment where your expertise and leadership can make a significant difference in enabling the company to achieve its strategic objectives and enhance customer experience.

What you'll do

You will play a pivotal role in leading the financial performance of key strategic programmes, collaborating closely with senior business partners to develop robust business cases that drive significant economic benefits across the retail profit and loss statement. You will provide best-in-class finance support, overseeing the implementation and measurement of the 3-year business strategy, and actively contribute to steering groups to ensure financial implications are fully understood, while managing stakeholder relationships and delivering executive summaries for business performance reviews and board meetings. Your role will involve strategic decision-making, financial reporting, and fostering effective communication with stakeholders, all aimed at driving financial success and supporting the business transformation journey.

Who you are

You are a qualified accountant with a proven track record of delivering financial leadership and driving strategic initiatives within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Your advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, combined with your ability to effectively communicate with senior stakeholders and work independently, enable you to provide valuable financial support, shape business decisions, and drive transformational change. With your self-motivation, prioritisation skills, and comfortability with ambiguity, you play a key role in managing financial performance, developing business cases, and ensuring the successful implementation of strategic programmes to drive economic benefits and profitability across the organisation.

Essential Criteria
  • Qualified accountant with a recognised certification - CIMA, ACCA, or ACA
  • Demonstrable business partnering experience in Commercial Finance/FP&A, including stakeholder engagement
  • Proven ability to develop business cases that support strategic decision-making
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, including use of pivot tables, lookups, power pivots, and macros
  • Effective communication skills with senior stakeholders, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance audiences
