Job Description
The RoleWe are seeking a commercially minded and driven Sales / Commercial Director to lead and grow a high-performing, multi-channel sales operation. This pivotal senior role will oversee inbound/outbound telesales, field sales, and marketing, with a strong emphasis on customer retention, new business development, and brand presence across the North of England and South of Scotland.As part of the Senior Management Team, you will report directly to the Board and play a key role in shaping business strategy. For the right individual, this is a genuine opportunity to make a mark—with potential for growth share rewards based on achieving agreed performance levels.Key ResponsibilitiesSales Strategy & Execution- Design and implement a growth-oriented sales strategy across inbound/outbound telesales and field sales.Establish scalable sales processes that support structured outbound activity, lead , and key account targeting.Set and manage commercial KPIs around revenue growth, retention, conversion, and profitability.Leadership & Team DevelopmentRecruit, train, and lead a multi-disciplinary sales team, building capacity over time in line with business needs.Establish clear goals, pipelines, and performance metrics across sales functions.Coach and mentor sales leaders and individual team members, fostering a high-performance, customer-first culture.Customer Retention & GrowthOwn customer lifecycle strategy from initial contact through to long-term retention and contract renewal.Develop and oversee account management and upselling initiatives to maximise customer value and satisfaction.Monitor churn and implement proactive measures to improve retention rates.Marketing & Brand StrategyLead the development and execution of the company’s marketing strategy, aligned with commercial objectives.Oversee the planning and delivery of campaigns, content, events, and digital marketing to support lead and brand visibility.Ensure that all marketing activities reflect the company’s values, tone, and positioning in the sector.Work closely with internal and external marketing resources to track performance, ROI, and engagement across key channels.Leverage customer insights, market intelligence, and competitor benchmarking to refine positioning and communications.Commercial & Strategic ContributionIdentify and secure new commercial opportunities, including large key accounts and strategic partnerships.Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, and Marketing to ensure unified delivery of service, pricing, and brand messaging.Actively contribute to board-level discussions and decision-making on growth planning and performance strategy.Technology & ReportingLead implementation and optimisation of CRM and sales enablement tools, ensuring data-driven decision-making.Provide regular sales and pipeline reporting to the Board, including forecasting, opportunity tracking, and risk analysis.About YouYou are an ambitious, data-led sales and marketing leader.Sector experience: You’ve worked with a multi-channel sales focus.Strategic thinker, hands-on leader: You’re comfortable shaping direction while getting into the detail to coach and execute.Commercially sharp: You understand pricing, margin, negotiation, and what it takes to land and grow profitable contracts.Customer obsessed: You believe retention is just as critical as acquisition and take pride in developing long-term client relationships.Marketing-savvy: You understand how to align brand, messaging, and marketing campaigns to drive sales performance.Builder and motivator: You know how to scale a sales and marketing team from strong foundations, establishing clear processes and accountability.Remuneration & Rewards * - Basic Salary: £70,000 * - On-Target Earnings (OTE): £95,000+ * - Car allowance/company vehicle * - Company pension scheme * - Attractive performance-related incentive plan * - Opportunity for growth share allocation based on achievement of pre-agreed performance metricsThis is a rare opportunity to shape both the sales and marketing direction of a forward-thinking business with deep local roots and ambition.
