Low Carbon Recruitment Ltd is assisting a major UK energy services and decarbonisation group to recruit a Commercial Director. The role leads Commercial, Procurement and Document Control teams, shaping strategy and delivering complex decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and engineering projects across healthcare and public sectors.

The post-holder will report to the Managing Director, sit on the Senior Leadership Team, and drive commercial excellence while protecting the business commercially

Qualifications

• Significant senior commercial leadership experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure or energy.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts (bespoke contracts with third-party financiers advantageous).
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing contractual risk.
• Track record of improving commercial performance and delivering business transformation.
• Commercial acumen with strategic thinking and strong business judgement.

• Improve commercial processes, systems and ways of working.
• Provide expert guidance on NEC4, JCT and bespoke commercial contracts.

Commercial Director - Overview

Commercial Director role working for one of the UK's largest Energy Services and Decarbonisation business who specialise in decarbonising live environment buildings such as Hospitals, Universities, Museums and many other sites with a typical project value of £30-50million. They are one of two companies who have been awarded government frameworks to decarbonising a substantial amount of NHS sites across the UK as well as a significant project pipeline over the next few years.

They are entering their next stage of significant growth and want the right candidate who can grow with them. As Commercial Director, you'll report directly to the Managing Director, sit on the Senior Leadership Team and play a defining role in shaping the future of the business. You'll influence strategic direction, drive commercial excellence and lead the teams responsible for delivering some of the UK's most significant decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and engineering projects.

You'll lead the Commercial, Procurement and Document Control teams, ensuring commercial excellence across a diverse portfolio of complex engineering and infrastructure projects. Working alongside Operations, Finance, Business Development, Technical and Legal teams, you'll provide the commercial leadership that enables sustainable growth while protecting the business commercially and contractually.

What You'll Be Doing:

Leading the Business:

• Be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping shape business strategy and long-term growth.
• Influence expansion across healthcare, district heating, industrial decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and emerging low-carbon technologies.
• Drive commercial input into business planning, budgeting and forecasting.
• Develop and implement a strategic procurement function that delivers value through supplier partnerships, drives cost efficiencies, strengthens supply chain resilience and supports the successful delivery of complex engineering and energy infrastructure projects.

Inspire, mentor and develop an exceptional Commercial team:

• Lead Procurement and Document Control functions, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Develop succession plans and future leaders.
• Improve commercial processes, systems and ways of working.

Improve project profitability, forecasting accuracy and cash generation:

• Ensure transparent commercial reporting across the business.
• Provide commercial leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Deliver best-in-class commercial governance and controls.

Lead negotiations on major client contracts and supplier agreements:

• Provide expert guidance on NEC4, JCT and bespoke commercial contracts.
• Manage commercial risk across the business.
• Lead the resolution of major commercial disputes and claims when required.

Commercial Director - Requirements

• Significant senior commercial leadership experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure or energy.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts (bespoke commercial contracts involving third-party financiers would be advantageous)
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing contractual risk.

Commercial Director - Salary & Remuneration

• Salary up to £130,000 (Negotiable)
• 15-20% Bonus (£26,000) pa
