We're partnering with an innovative, market-leading business that's enabling the construction sector to build a livable, zero-carbon future — today. They provide an end-to-end service designing, funding, building, and operating microgrids (SmartGrids), creating low-carbon, low-cost environments for business and domestic energy customers.
The business is now on the lookout for an experienced Commercial Director to lead a team of Commercial Managers, shaping strategy, driving commercial success, and developing a high-performance team to support the business' growth.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Driving Commercial Strategy: Lead the commercial function, ensuring projects meet profitability targets and risks are carefully managed.
- Leading Project Sales: Oversee the commercial process from opportunity to contract, ensuring offers are aligned with client needs, risks are mitigated, and proposals secure shareholder investment approval.
- Managing Governance: Develop and refine internal processes to ensure efficient project lifecycle management, from offer development to asset adoption.
- Team Leadership: Build and develop a high-performing, effective commercial team that can scale with the business.
- Client Collaboration: Support the sales team in building strong, lasting relationships with B2B clients to drive repeat business.
- Market Insight: Monitor market conditions and regulatory changes, ensuring the business remains agile and competitive.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience in a senior commercial role within energy utilities or the construction sector.
- Knowledge of low-carbon energy technologies and an understanding of DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs.
- Strong negotiation skills — particularly around complex, high-value contracts.
- Ability to manage risk and ensure commercial success from development through to operational stages.
- Leadership mindset — experience building, leading, and motivating high-performing teams.
- Bonus: Understanding of electricity regulations, construction development processes, and utilities procurement.
Why You'll Love This Role:
- Work for a forward-thinking, market-leading business dedicated to enabling a zero-carbon future.
- Fantastic career development opportunities — shape the commercial strategy and influence the future of the business.
- Competitive salary with flexibility based on experience, plus an attractive benefits package.
- Nationwide, remote working with occasional travel (including visits to the London office).
- Collaborate with an inspiring leadership team in a high-growth, innovative environment.
