Job summary

Metro Bank is seeking an experienced Commercial Banking underwriter to assess lending propositions up to £5m, exercising personal lending authority and presenting complex cases for higher-level approval. You will maintain asset quality, ensure policy compliance, and support growth objectives through robust risk management.

You will build relationships with Commercial Banking leaders, share knowledge, and mentor colleagues while navigating regulatory requirements in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience within Commercial Banking, including exercising personal lending authority and making credit decisions
• Experience as a Credit Partner, Relationship Manager and/or in distressed debt management
• Strong knowledge of commercial lending, banking and finance, including relevant legal and regulatory considerations
• Excellent stakeholder management, collaboration and negotiation skills
• Strong commercial acumen, with a broad understanding of economic trends and market dynamics
• Highly effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
• Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Commercial Banking lending propositions up to £5m, exercising personal lending authority and presenting more complex cases for higher-level approval
• Maintain strong lending asset quality through prudent credit assessment, portfolio management, and proactive identification of emerging risks
• Ensure compliance with Metro Bank’s lending policies, standards, procedures, and credit risk governance requirements
• Build strong relationships with Commercial Banking leaders and colleagues, providing challenge, influence, coaching, and support across teams
• Manage workflows efficiently to deliver timely, high-quality lending decisions and support the Bank’s growth objectives
• Promote the Metro Bank approach to lending, combining strong customer understanding with deep product, sector, and repayment source knowledge
• Contribute to the development of Credit Policy, Standards, Procedures, and wider credit risk initiatives while supporting the development of less experienced colleagues

What you will need:
