Reports to: Contracts Manager / Service Manager
Location: North West, West Midlands
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, with on-call rota as required
Job Purpose
To undertake the installation, servicing, maintenance, and reactive repair of commercial catering appliances and associated equipment across a variety of client sites. The role requires a proactive and technically capable individual who is Gas Safe registered with full CCCN1 and COMCAT 1-5 qualifications. The Commercial Catering Engineer will ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the relevant compliance, safety, and legislative requirements, delivering an exceptional standard of service to clients.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), servicing, fault diagnosis, and breakdown repairs on a wide range of commercial gas catering equipment (e.g., ovens, grills, fryers, steamers, dishwashers, combi ovens, etc.).
• Install and commission commercial catering equipment in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and statutory requirements.
• Conduct gas safety inspections and issue relevant certification in accordance with current Gas Safe regulations.
• Respond to emergency reactive maintenance calls, diagnosing and resolving faults efficiently to minimise equipment downtime.
• Maintain clear and accurate job records, service reports, and compliance documentation using handheld technology or manual systems.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
• Provide technical support and advice to clients and site representatives.
• Work as part of a regional/national service team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Participate in a call-out rota and be willing to work occasional overtime when required to support business needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
• Gas Safe registered with valid core commercial catering certification:
• - CCCN1 - Core Commercial Catering Gas Safety
• - COMCAT 1 - Open Burner Appliances
• - COMCAT 2 - Water Boilers
• - COMCAT 3 - Deep Fat & Shallow Fryers
• - COMCAT 4 - Ovens and Ranges
• - COMCAT 5 - Forced Draught Burners
• Proven experience in commercial catering equipment maintenance and repair.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Desirable:
• Additional mechanical or electrical qualifications (e.g., 17th/18th Edition, NVQ in Mechanical Engineering).
• Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Rational, Lincat, Hobart, Blue Seal).
• Experience working in facilities management or commercial environments such as schools, hospitals, restaurants, or public buildings.
