Job Description:

Role Purpose
The Commercial Assistant will support the Housing Advisory Service (HAS) and its senior management team to monitor its management strategy (achieving budget, vacancy factor, absence costs, etc.) and report on the staffing budget. The role involves identifying high-cost temporary accommodation placements and ensuring strategies are being progressed to address them, using data to drive financial performance. Ensuring compliance with the financial governance framework for the Service and relevant policies and procedures across the wider Council.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Identify high-cost placements in temporary accommodation and ensure strategies are being implemented to address them, using data to improve financial performance.
  2. Prepare regular reports on budget performance and financial status, reflecting changes to staff structure.
  3. Assist in identifying and mitigating risks to the Housing Advisory Service budget.
  4. Prepare staff budget reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
  5. Monitor and report on HAS staffing budget, including agency spend and funding sources.
  6. Liaise with HAS management, Strategic Housing Director, internal departments (Finance, Digital Services), and other stakeholders for effective communication.
  7. Support the Housing Advisory Service in delivering its budget within targets to fulfill statutory homelessness duties.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a housing association or council (Essential)
  • Degree in business administration, finance, or a related field (Essential)
  • Experience in a commercial or financial role, preferably within a housing or public sector environment (Essential)
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and financial management software (Essential)
Contract
  • Initial 3-month ongoing contract
  • PAYE via Umbrella
  • Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm (In Office)
