Job summary

Story Contracting Limited is seeking a Commercial Assistant to join our Commercial team in the Eastern region, helping keep projects organized and moving forward. The role supports day-to-day commercial activity and collaboration across functions to ensure timely payments and accurate records.

The successful candidate will be comfortable with Excel, IT systems, and have an interest in construction. There is potential to learn COINS and grow a long-term career within the commercial function.

Qualifications

• Interested in construction and civils; understands how commercial teams support projects.
• Comfortable with Excel and IT systems; COINS experience is an advantage but not essential.
• Eager to learn, develop, and build a long-term career within the commercial function.
• Understanding of construction contracts and measurement would be helpful, or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Produce timely reports to support month-end activities.
• Assist with variation pricing and change control processes.
• Provide information for periodic KPI reporting with other functions.
• Help ensure timely payments to the supply chain by processing GRNs and payment certificates.
• Support cash flow reporting and cost-to-complete forecasting.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date commercial records.

Join Our Commercial Team as a Commercial Assistant.

We’re looking for a Commercial Assistant to join our Commercial team in the Eastern region and play a key role in keeping our projects organised, accurate and moving forward.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the region, supporting day‑to‑day commercial activity and helping ensure everything adds up.

What you’ll be doing

• Producing timely reports to support the commercial team during month-end reporting
• Assisting with variation pricing and change control processes
• Working with other functions to provide information for periodic KPI reporting
• Supporting project teams to ensure timely payments to the supply chain by processing Goods Received Notes (GRNs) and payment certificates
• Supporting cash flow reporting and cost-to-complete forecasting
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date commercial records

About you

• Interested in construction and civils, with a good awareness of how commercial teams support projects
• Comfortable using Excel and IT systems; experience with COINS would be an advantage, but isn’t essential
• Eager to learn, develop and build a long-term career within the commercial function.
• A understanding of construction contracts and measurement would be helpful, or a willingness to learn and develop these skills.

Please note: In June we will be relocating to a new site situated a short distance from Junction 41 of the M1 motorway and approximately one mile from Wakefield City Centre. The new location is well served by public transport and benefits from a range of amenities within a few minutes’ walk.
