Commercial Accountant

Purpose of the role:

Reporting to the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager, this role focuses on producing and completing month-end accounts related to Tour Profitability. You will analyze income and costs, providing commentary on margins to support business decisions.

Location: Market Harborough office.

Working Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, 09:00-17:15, Monday to Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.

In this role you will:
  1. Collaborate with the Financial Manager to ensure timely month-end close and accurate accounting records.
  2. Own the P&L at the margin level, including:
  • Revenue reconciliation and posting at booking and departure levels
  • Reviewing COS accruals and prepayments at departure level
  • Coordinating with other departments to capture all costs
  • Complete weekly flight reconciliations from multiple sources.
  • Reconcile and complete balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Prepare tour profitability reports with commentary and analysis for finance and non-finance teams.
  • Provide variance analysis for management accounts as needed.
  • Discuss P&L results monthly with relevant teams.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting with insights from month-end data.
  • Engage in ad-hoc projects and reporting to enhance understanding of income and costs.
  • Respond to stakeholder inquiries with data interpretation and analysis.
  • To be successful, you will:
    • Be a part-qualified accountant (CIMA or ACCA)
    • Demonstrate high accuracy and attention to detail
    • Possess strong analytical skills
    • Have knowledge of SUN or similar accounting systems
    • Preferably have experience in a similar role
    • Be proficient in Excel
    • Be a team player and passionate about travel
    • Meet deadlines and proactively question discrepancies
    • Drive process improvements and influence others
