Job Opportunity: Colorectal Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated individual to join the established Colorectal Nurse Specialist team at University Hospitals Dorset. The position is based on the Bournemouth site, with potential for cross-site working as pathways are aligned. This rewarding role covers every aspect of the patient's cancer journey, making the nurse an integral part of the colorectal team and acting as the patient's key worker.

The CNS team aims to ensure a coordinated, multi-professional approach to diagnosis, treatment, planning, and care for patients diagnosed or suspected of having a colorectal malignancy.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate investigations and treatment in partnership with the existing Colorectal Cancer Specialist Nursing team, supporting patients and their families from pre-diagnosis through treatment, follow-up, or palliative care.
  2. Act as a key worker, providing expert advice, information, and psychological support to colorectal cancer patients.
  3. Work clinically and strategically with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and its clinical lead to develop the service according to local and national guidelines.
  4. Develop innovative nursing practices and provide specialist advice within the field, serving as an educational resource to the MDT and wider Trust, and facilitating staff development to enhance patient experience.
Prerequisites:

Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work well both as part of a team and autonomously. Skills in multitasking and prioritization are essential for managing a busy workload.
