Job summary

Amazon Data Services UK Limited in the United Kingdom is seeking a Colo Electrical Regional Engineer to drive electrical engineering services, oversee data center fit-outs, and ensure quality and reliability across regions.

You will collaborate with design, construction, operations, and commissioning teams, leading projects from site selection through delivery while upholding AWS safety and efficiency standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review the design for new Data Centers with Colo vendors, incorporating AWS products to meet expectations.
• Act as Resident Engineer during Colo construction, supporting construction, commissioning and handover.
• Troubleshoot, conduct RCA and document corrective actions for site/equipment failures.
• Provide technical support to operating partners with ad-hoc training and SOP reviews.
• Provide technical input for upgrades to existing data centers to improve capacity and availability.
• Support operating partners to review and approve designs for upgrades to improve availability and efficiency.
• Coordinate with partners, data center design engineering team, server hardware, EH&S to maintain standards.
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering site audits and produce risk reports with mitigations.

The Role

As a Colo Electrical Regional Engineer, you will drive Electrical Engineering services, construction and implementation of enterprise data centers, which meet quality and performance levels across the globe. You will work directly with our Design Engineering Stakeholders, Construction, Operations, and Commissioning teams regionally and globally. You will be leading projects to fit out the data centers we support to meet ever‑evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale.

The Colo Electrical Regional Engineer is the engineering representative on behalf of the Data Center Colo Regional Engineering team responsible for the successful delivery of projects. In this role, you will assist in Data Center site selection, planning, development. You will evaluate different mechanical/electrical systems and make a data driven decision about a suitable solution based on our guidelines.

Key job responsibilities

• Work with Colo vendors to review the design for new Data Centers in your region, including design input, submittal review and incorporating AWS products to ensure the design is meeting AWS expectations.
• Act as Resident Engineer during new Colo construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including essential equipment, and event support.
• Provide technical support to the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
• Supporting operating partners to lead, review, and approve designs for existing Colocation data center upgrades which improve availability/efficiency.
• Interface with operating partners, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Colo data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.

A day in the life

Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to support data center capacity availability and safety focusing on the actions that are most impactful. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally. You will be leading projects to fit out the data centers we support to meet ever‑evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyperscale.
