Job description

The Facilities Division operates across campus to maintain and develop our buildings, providing vital support services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

A great opportunity has arisen to join a busy, dynamic and friendly team in support of our vision “making campus an inspiring place to be”.

We currently have a vacancy for a College Porter on our Bailrigg Campus within the Facilities Division at Lancaster University. The post is a full time position working an average 42 hours per week on a 24 hour shift rotation. The shift pattern is a rotational one menaing that the successful applicant will rotate between 12 hour day shifts and 12 hour night shifts. This rotation continues 24/7, 365 days a year which means that you can expect to work some Bank Holiday's and weekends. In recognition of the shift pattern, as well as the basic salary, the post attracts an allowance for Shift Work and an allowance for the contracted hours worked over 36.5 per week. None contractual overtime may also be available from time to time.

You should be hard working, reliable, willing to learn and possess excellent customer service skills. Portering experience is not essential but desirable with experience of working in a similar environment. You should be comfortable working with computers and multiple software systems. You will need to be educated to GCSE level in Maths and English and be committed to high standards, able to work on your own initiative whilst also being comfortable working in a team environment. You will have a flexible approach and attitude to solving day to day problems. You should also be open to adopting new ideas and processes and have a willingness to undergo development training.
