Job description

Collections Assistant - Moreton-in-Marsh

Summary

We protect everything from bats to buildings to beaches – and we want to share them with everyone too. But how do we care for our special places, while helping everyone to enjoy them and their fascinating stories? It’s no small task. In fact, it’s a big team effort and it’s why our Collections Assistants are so important.

Hours/Working Pattern: Part-time, 33.75 hours per week. You’ll be working weekdays and alternate Sundays.

Salary: £12.75 per hour.

Duration: 12-month Fixed Term Contract.

Potential Start Date: ASAP.

Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules.

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a CV or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

What it's like to work here

Chastleton House, a rare gem of a Jacobean country house built between 1607 and 1612, was owned by the same family until 1991. Its interiors and contents have remained largely unchanged for nearly 400 years, offering an authentic and timeless atmosphere in a beautifully preserved setting. There is no shop or tea-room, allowing visitors to truly step back in time.

In this role, you’ll be part of the house team, based at Chastleton House. You’ll report to the Senior Collections & House Officer and work closely with the Collections & House Officer, other Collections Assistants, and our volunteer team. The wider team includes the Welcome Team at Visitor Reception and our Gardeners.

What you'll be doing

As a Collections Assistant, you’ll work with a supportive housekeeping team in an inspiring historic setting. Your responsibilities include the daily cleaning and care of the house’s collections—objects, artworks, textiles, and furniture. You’ll monitor environmental conditions and signs of wear and tear, and keep accurate records. The role also involves engaging with visitors about the collections and your work.

You can view the full role profile in the attached document. You don’t need to have all the listed skills and experience; it’s meant to give a full picture of potential in this role.
