Join a leading heritage organization as a Collections Assistant at Chastleton House. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for the care of historic collections, engaging with visitors, and ensuring the preservation of our heritage. This part-time role offers a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful, historic setting while contributing to the mission of sharing our cultural treasures with the public.
We protect everything from bats to buildings to beaches – and we want to share them with everyone too. But how do we care for our special places, while helping everyone to enjoy them and their fascinating stories? It’s no small task. In fact, it’s a big team effort and it’s why our Collections Assistants are so important.
Hours/Working Pattern: Part-time, 33.75 hours per week. You’ll be working weekdays and alternate Sundays.
Salary: £12.75 per hour.
Duration: 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
Potential Start Date: ASAP.

Chastleton House, a rare gem of a Jacobean country house built between 1607 and 1612, was owned by the same family until 1991. Its interiors and contents have remained largely unchanged for nearly 400 years, offering an authentic and timeless atmosphere in a beautifully preserved setting. There is no shop or tea-room, allowing visitors to truly step back in time.
In this role, you’ll be part of the house team, based at Chastleton House. You’ll report to the Senior Collections & House Officer and work closely with the Collections & House Officer, other Collections Assistants, and our volunteer team. The wider team includes the Welcome Team at Visitor Reception and our Gardeners.
As a Collections Assistant, you’ll work with a supportive housekeeping team in an inspiring historic setting. Your responsibilities include the daily cleaning and care of the house’s collections—objects, artworks, textiles, and furniture. You’ll monitor environmental conditions and signs of wear and tear, and keep accurate records. The role also involves engaging with visitors about the collections and your work.
