Job summary

The National Trust is seeking a part-time Collections Assistant to care for a historic house and its treasured objects. You will support housekeeping in daily cleaning and handling, help present the collection to visitors, and keep accurate records. The role involves talking to guests about the work and the stories behind the collections.

You will work with volunteers and staff to ensure high standards of conservation and guest experience, in a welcoming historic setting.

Qualifications

• Hand-eye coordination for careful handling and use of ladders or scaffold towers.
• Flexibility and adaptability to shifting tasks and schedules.
• Commitment to delivering excellent service to visitors and colleagues.
• Team player mindset with ability to work independently when needed.
• Willingness to learn new skills and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Care for historic house and its collections to conserve and present items to a high standard.
• Assist with day-to-day cleaning and care of objects, textiles, furniture and works of art.
• Help bring the stories of the collections to life for visitors and answer questions.
• Maintain accurate room records and environmental monitoring where required.
• Support Collections and House volunteers as needed and engage with visitors.
