CoE Turnaround Team Associate Director #LI-CP1

KPMG's UK Deal Advisory team is recruiting ambitious, innovative, and high-performing individuals at all levels to accelerate the growth of its recently launched Turnaround Team.

KPMG's Turnaround Team offers an exciting opportunity to work within dynamic, flexible, and fast-moving environments. It is the first line of response to opportunities arising from operational underperformance and/or financial pressure.

We have recently invested significantly in this team, including several experienced partners/directors, and are actively recruiting to help accelerate this exciting growth initiative. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all colleagues thrive and reach their full potential, regardless of their identity or background. This is fundamental to our success as a business. Turnaround Team is intentionally building a diverse, high-performance team, seeking applicants with experience across multiple industry sectors and business functions.

Turnaround Team operates nationally and is deeply embedded within the rapidly growing Deal Advisory business as part of the highly successful Corporate Finance team. Our multi-capability group delivers a broad spectrum of corporate advisory work, serving regional and large corporate clients across the UK. This enables us to deliver bespoke, solutions-led approaches to help companies preserve value and navigate back to sustainable growth.

We proactively support businesses through the entire economic cycle, leveraging our expertise and the breadth of capabilities at KPMG to help clients face challenges during economic uncertainty, including:

  • Internal and external stakeholder stabilization and management
  • Short-term liquidity management
  • Business plan assessment, challenge, and analysis
  • Identification and assessment of options
  • Financing strategies
  • Business disposals or managed exits
  • Cash & working capital management
  • Cost reduction and performance improvement
  • Economic profitability assessments
  • Development of integrated financial and operational turnaround plans
  • Implementation support

The key attributes of an Associate Director within Turnaround Team include:

  • An analytical mindset with strong commercial and business acumen
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders including PE firms, lenders, corporates, and internal KPMG stakeholders
  • Experience leading multi-work stream advisory projects (financial restructuring, stakeholder advisory, turnaround, liquidity, and business review disciplines)
  • An existing network of client relationships across corporates, lenders, private equity, and other stakeholders
  • Creativity and willingness to try new approaches, as clients often have multiple issues beyond initial expectations
  • Effective team management, coaching, training, and mentoring skills to develop diverse talent both on and off client engagements

Ideal candidates may have a background in professional services, consulting, finance, or operations, with success in turnaround, financial analysis, restructuring, or transactions. Industry sector expertise (such as consumer, industrials, healthcare & life sciences, TMT, business services, energy & natural resources) is beneficial but not essential. Experience working in fast-paced environments and with businesses facing financial or operational challenges is also advantageous.
