Job summary

Natural England is hiring a Senior Officer to lead strategic work on planning and major infrastructure in the coastal environment. You will influence policy, guidance, and practice to secure better outcomes for nature while supporting sustainable development.

The role involves interacting with regulators, industry bodies, and partner organisations to shape planning policy and evidence-based infrastructure delivery, contributing to national strategy and environmental improvement plans.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or equivalent and/or extensive experience in a related field.
• Technical expertise and applied experience of the planning system, legislation, and guidance.
• Experience working with national external partners and stakeholders in infrastructure/planning.
• Understanding the legislative/policy/context of infrastructure and planning work.
• Experience interacting with regulators and industry bodies to support policy and guidance.

Responsibilities

• Act as sector lead for coastal infrastructure (e.g., tidal range, nuclear, marine carbon dioxide removal).
• Provide and coordinate technical advice to Defra, DESNZ, MHCLG and other government departments to support NE’s responses.
• Build relationships with Defra, DESNZ, MHCLG and other government colleagues alongside delivery bodies and industry groups.
