Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy multi-disciplinary coastal engineering team, managing coastal flood and erosion risk on the south coast. You’ll develop your skills through an accredited apprenticeship alongside your role.

Coastal Partners provides a Coastal Risk Management Service to Havant Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council and Chichester District Council that reduces the risks to people, and the developed and natural environment from flooding and coastal erosion. This area includes three major harbours of significant environmental importance and over 246km of coastline. Our mission is to design and construct new coastal defences, research critical issues such as flooding and erosion, and maintain existing sea defences. With several exciting large-scale civil engineering projects in our portfolio, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team.

As an Associate Project Manager Apprentice, you will work within an engineering technician role that plays a crucial part in supporting the planning, execution, and monitoring of coastal defence projects. Your work will directly contribute to safeguarding communities and enhancing the natural environment. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills in engineering and project management while making a tangible impact on coastal resilience and sustainability.

Key Tasks for this apprenticeship:

  • Project Planning: Assist in creating and updating project plans, schedules, budgets, and timelines.
  • Resource Coordination: Help co-ordinate project resources, including people, materials, and equipment.
  • Communication: Ensure effective communication between project team members, stakeholders, and our communities.
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor project progress and report on the status to stakeholders.
  • Administrative Support: Perform administrative tasks such as organising project documents, scheduling meetings, and preparing invoices.
  • Leadership: Develop leadership skills by supporting senior project managers and leading smaller project tasks.
  • Contract Management: Assist in managing contracts with external suppliers and contractors, ensuring compliance and effective collaboration.
  • Commercial Aspects: Understand and contribute to the commercial aspects of coastal projects, including budgeting, cost management, and financial reporting.

Qualifications and desirable skills

  • Maths and English certificates - GCSE/GCE/Functional Skills
  • A keen interest in coastal management and environmental sustainability, construction management, civil engineering or project delivery.
  • Appreciation and interest in the natural and built environments.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of project management principles is desirable but not essential.
