What is the Swimming Leadership Group?

As part of the Swim England governance structure, the Swimming Leadership Group (SLG) reports directly into the Swim England Sport Operations Committee. Its work focuses on managing age group swimming through policy development across Swim England, the regions, the counties and clubs. It also leads on the development of swimming technical officials.

The Group is comprised of six volunteer members who are currently active in the sport. They include a national meet director, senior technical officials and an active coach from a large club.

In order to expand the skills and experience of the group and recognising the importance of the coaching community, the Group is seeking to recruit an additional Coaching representative on a voluntary basis.

Role Summary

The Coaching Lead acts as an informed voice in relation to the coaching matters in swimming, both on an operational and strategic level. They will provide input and advice on the implementation of rules, competition formatting and technical rules.

What is the commitment?

The SLG meets four times per year, with papers circulated at least a week prior to the meeting. Meetings are usually held online and in the evening.

It is expected that group members attend every meeting, where possible, and have had the time to read through papers to support constructive discussion during meetings.

We estimate the total commitment to be approximately 6 hours per month.

Appointments to the committee are usually for a four-year term, with the potential for a second four-year term, subject to recruitment.

Further information on the SLG minutes can be provided on request.
