Are you an experienced Paediatric Diabetes Nurse looking for a new opportunity?

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Band 7 Paediatric Diabetes Nurse to join our dynamic team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and their families, providing expert care and support for young people with diabetes.

Delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to children and young people with diabetes, both in the clinic and at home.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.

Providing education, advice, and support to patients, families, and carers.
Supporting the development of clinical protocols and pathways.

Managing and interpreting diagnostic tests and making clinical decisions based on findings.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist nursing within the paediatric and adolescent diabetes service, delivering expert, individualised care to patients and their families in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, in line with local and national and international standards.
  • To act as a professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care and promoting best practice through clinical leadership, teaching and research. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Support the Lead Nurse and Head of Nursing, Paediatrics to ensure the core of CNS’s within children’s services work together to cover the spectrum of specialties that we cover.

Person specification

Education

  • Registered Nurse, RN Child /RSCN
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience including post graduate courses, training and specialist education
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Research experience
  • Recognised leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Non-Medical prescribing or a willingness to complete

Skills

  • Proven leadership skills through experience of leading a team
  • Commitment to improving patient services with a clear focus on achieving performance goals
  • Expert clinical skills and excellent knowledge base pertaining to speciality
  • Willingness to broaden clinical skills to support clinical role

Experience

  • Significant experience at band 6 level within specialty or equivalent experience
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of current issues in specialty
  • Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
  • Experience developing and writing local and national guidelines
  • Experience working with children and young people with mental health problems
  • Experience running support groups with children / young people / families
