Job summary

Hrgo-Recruitment Basildon seeks a CNC Turner/Setter-Operator for aerospace precision engineering. You will set and run Fanuc CNC lathes, apply offsets, and carry out at-machine edits to achieve tight tolerances.

You’ll perform first-off and in-process inspections with micrometers and gauges, read engineering drawings, and maintain quality records. Training and development support are provided in a safety-conscious shop.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a CNC Turner/Setter-Operator in aerospace or precision engineering.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T (beneficial).
• Competent with measurement equipment and first-off checks.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes/turning centres to close tolerances.
• Apply tool offsets, perform tool changes and basic at-machine edits.
• Conduct first-off and in-process inspection using micrometers and gauges.
• Read drawings and route cards; document inspection records.
• Identify non-conformances and support corrective actions.
• Maintain housekeeping and safe working practices; assist live tooling as required.

The job (what you’ll be doing)

• Set and operate a range of Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes/turning centres producing aerospace components to close tolerances
• Apply tool offsets, carry out tool changes, prove-outs and basic at-machine edits as required
• Conduct first-off and in-process inspection using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, etc.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and route cards (GD&T beneficial)
• Complete inspection paperwork/records accurately and follow quality procedures
• Identify and report non-conformances and support corrective actions
• Perform basic machine care and maintain good housekeeping and safe working practices
• Support live tooling work where required (or train into it)

Who we’re looking for

• Proven experience as a CNC Turner / Setter-Operator in precision engineering (aerospace desirable)
• Confident understanding of Fanuc controls (setting, running, offsets; basic edits)
• Ability to work to tight tolerances and interpret engineering drawings
• Competent with measuring equipment and routine first-off/in-process checks
• Reliable, quality-focused approach and good attention to detail
• Current UK right to work (required)
• Apprenticeship-trained (or equivalent)
• Live tooling experience
• Experience machining exotic/harder materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel)
• Experience in an aerospace/regulated environment (e.g., AS9100)
