Job summary

Meritus is recruiting a CNC Turner Setter Operator for a permanent role in Basildon, Essex. You will set and operate Doosan and Haas CNC lathes to produce precision components in line with engineering drawings for aerospace, defence and commercial programmes.

You’ll set fixtures and tooling, monitor tool wear and surface finish, check parts for quality, and help meet production targets in a fast-growing precision engineering environment.

CNC TURNER SETTER OPERATOR - £16 - £18 PER HOUR - BASILDON, ESSEX - 1 STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS - SECTOR: PRECISION MANUFACTURING - AEROSPACE COMPONENTS

An established and rapidly growing precision manufacturing company is continuing to strengthen its machining team following sustained growth across aerospace, defence and commercial engineering programmes.

As new projects continue to be secured and production expands, they’re looking to welcome an experienced CNC Turner / Setter to join the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys producing high-quality precision components, working with modern CNC machinery, and taking pride in delivering components that meet exact engineering specifications for highly regulated industries.

Working with Doosan and Haas CNC lathes, you’ll play an important role in supporting production, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to the successful delivery of complex engineering programmes.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for setting and operating Doosan and Haas CNC lathes to produce precision components in line with engineering drawings and quality standards. The role involves setting fixtures and tooling, monitoring tooling and surface finish, and supporting production requirements through accurate machining.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate Doosan and Haas CNC lathes, including Doosan 4100L, Doosan 4100 and Haas ST15Y driven tool lathes.
• Set chucks, fixtures and tooling in accordance with setting instructions.
• Produce precision-machined components to engineering drawing specifications.
• Check components at the machine to ensure parts remain compliant with drawing and quality requirements.
• Work towards agreed production targets in line with scheduled manufacturing requirements.
• Monitor tool wear to ensure tooling remains in good condition and does not affect component quality.
• Visually inspect surface finish to ensure quality standards are maintained.

Main Activities

• Operate Doosan and Haas CNC lathes to manufacture precision components.
• Set chucks, fixtures and tooling in accordance with approved setting instructions.
• Inspect components during production to ensure they continue to meet engineering drawing specifications and quality standards.
• Support the achievement of agreed production targets in line with the manufacturing schedule.
• Monitor tool wear and ensure tooling remains suitable for continued production.
• Visually inspect machined parts to confirm surface finish and overall quality requirements are met.
