Job summary

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled CNC Turner / Programmer/Setter/ Operator to join our specialist engineering team.

Working within a prestigious historic and classic car restoration environment, you will be responsible for producing high-quality, precision components, often to exacting tolerances and specifications. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC Turner who enjoys varied, challenging work and takes pride in engineering craftsmanship.

The Role

As a CNC Turner, you will be responsible for the complete machining process, from programming and setting through to the inspection of finished components.

You will be working with a 3-axis CNC lathe with live tooling, producing both one-off and small-batch components from a variety of materials.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Programming, setting and operating a 3-axis CNC lathe with live tooling.
  • On-line and off-line programming using FANUC controls.
  • Interpreting detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Selecting appropriate tooling, work holding, speeds and feeds.
  • Setting tools, offsets and work coordinates.
  • Producing components to tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.
  • Inspecting components using precision measuring equipment.
  • Making programme and tooling adjustments to achieve the required standards.
  • Working with a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminium and specialist engineering materials.
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and ensuring machinery and tooling are properly maintained.
  • Working closely with engineers and other members of the workshop team to resolve manufacturing challenges.
About You

You will have proven experience as a CNC Turner, Programmer, Setter and Operator, with a strong understanding of CNC machining and turning processes.

  • Experience with 3-axis lathes incorporating live tooling.
  • Strong experience of both on-line and off-line programming using FANUC controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience working to tight engineering tolerances.
  • Good knowledge of tooling, cutting speeds and feeds.
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Previous experience of SolidWorks, CAMWorks/Fusion
  • Experience within the automotive, motorsport, aerospace or specialist engineering sectors.
  • Experience working within a low-volume, high-value manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering apprenticeship or relevant technical qualification.
