Job summary

HRGO Recruitment are partnering with an established engineering and manufacturing company in Doncaster to recruit a skilled CNC Toolmaker. The role involves modifying and constructing tooling, supporting CNC milling and turning, and ensuring tooling meets quality standards and production schedules.

The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification with hands-on experience in machining, tooling, and fixture design.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience as CNC Toolmaker or similar role.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience operating, setting and programming CNC mills and lathes.
  • Machining processes including milling, turning and grinding.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, dies, jigs and fixtures.
  • Supervisory experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and construct tooling, jigs and attachments.
  • Monitor delivery and allocation of tooling from suppliers.
  • Maintain KanBan and stock levels.
  • Identify quality deficiencies vs. specifications.
  • Change work/tool offsets as required.
  • Manufacture tooling to issued drawings.
  • Improve CNC programmes and tooling selection.
  • Carry out maintenance on tooling.
  • Machining and bench fitting including grinding, turning and milling.
  • Test tooling prior to release.

HRGO Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering and manufacturing company for a CNC Toolmaker to join their production team in Doncaster. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced toolmaker with a mechanical engineering background looking for a hands‑on role within a busy manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the modification and construction of tooling, jigs and attachments, carrying out preventative maintenance and repairs, manufacturing replacement parts and supporting CNC milling and turning operations. You will also be responsible for ensuring tooling and equipment meet the required quality standards and production schedules.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Assist with the modification and construction of tooling, jigs and attachments
  • Monitor the delivery and allocation of tooling from suppliers
  • Maintain the KanBan system and ensure relevant stock levels are maintained
  • Identify product quality deficiencies and deviations from product specifications
  • Change work and tool offsets when required
  • Manufacture new tooling to issued drawings
  • Improve CNC programmes through speeds, feeds, machining strategies and correct tooling selection
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on tooling
  • Undertake all aspects of machining and bench fitting, including grinding, turning and milling
  • Test tooling prior to release
  • Assess the life of press tools and arrange replacement or manufacture of parts when required
  • Replace pilots, probe pins and springs
  • Design and manufacture special fixtures to fit tooling
  • Keep databases, orders and scheduling up to date
  • Carry out daily repairs to diecasting machines and dies when faults or issues occur
  • Manufacture replacement parts for diecasting machines and dies using milling and turning processes
  • Cut and turn ejection pins and sleeves
  • Polish dies and tooling
  • Read engineering drawings and suggest possible improvements
  • Operate, set and programme CNC mills and lathes
  • Meet production schedules, targets and relevant KPIs
  • Monitor attendance levels and complete return‑to‑work interviews where required
  • Report unauthorised absences and staff issues to HR
  • Attend daily production meetings with the Production Manager
  • Ensure staff are wearing appropriate PPE and completing relevant risk assessments
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area in line with company Health & Safety requirements
  • Ensure all equipment remains in its designated area
  • Report any wrongdoing or concerns to a member of the SMT when required
  • Work closely with the Production Controller
  • Ensure the safe and efficient use and control of machinery, tooling and equipment
  • Monitor and continuously improve production processes
  • Carry out gas safety inspections on furnaces up to the point where an external company is required
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager
About You
  • Level 3 qualification in a Mechanical Engineering field
  • Previous experience as a CNC Toolmaker, Toolmaker or similar engineering role
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience operating, setting and programming CNC mills and lathes
  • Experience with machining processes including milling, turning and grinding
  • Good understanding of tooling, dies, jigs and fixtures
  • Supervisory experience is desirable
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing demands
  • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
  • Willing to undertake relevant training
  • Able to manage time effectively
  • Self‑motivated and willing to use own initiative
  • Able to work without direct supervision
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements
  • Able to maintain high standards of quality and meet production targets
