Job description

CNC Programmer/Operator, West Bromwich, £40.5k

The CNC Engineer (Programmer/Operator) role involves supporting the Toolroom in manufacturing spares/modifications for press tools. The candidate will be responsible for programming and operating 2 Hurco CNC machining centers and 1 Charmilles EDM machine. Proficiency in Vero 3D CAD/CAM is required. Additionally, the role supports production CNC centers, aiming to improve OEE and assist CNC setters. This position suits a CNC machinist experienced in batch production and press tool manufacturing.

Job Accountabilities:
  1. Reliability and punctuality are essential for the efficient operation of the department.
  2. Manage daily CNC machine operations, produce items from CAD drawings, and update files as needed.
  3. Maximize machine utilization and prepare instructions for subsequent shifts.
  4. Coordinate workload with the Toolroom Manager and support team.
  5. Collaborate with Toolmakers and support the Toolroom Manager with spares and breakdowns, possibly working overtime.
  6. Report faults or errors to relevant staff or management.
  7. Work additional hours if required to cover absences.
  8. Provide appropriate training to apprentices under your care.
  9. Assist in production issues and train operators in the CNC area.
  10. Support Robot Engineers when needed.
  11. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including PPE compliance and hazard reporting.
  12. Communicate effectively within and outside the organization to ensure accurate information flow.
Job Context:
  • Support tooling manufacture and spares production.
  • Support production CNC machines.
  • Working hours: 39 hours/week, Mon-Thu 7:30am-4:30pm, Fri 7:30am-12:30pm.

Qualifications / Knowledge:
  • Forklift license (advantageous but not essential).

  • Knowledge of press tooling and batch CNC production.
