This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and professional CNC Machinist with proven experience in programming and operating 3-axis and 5-axis machines, to work for a successful, forward-thinking organisation that offers an informal, friendly, yet professional and hardworking environment.
This role reports directly to the Technical Director, but the successful applicant will work closely with workshop colleagues as well as DCA's project managers, designers, and engineers.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Programming and operating 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines.
- Producing one-off or low volume prototype parts, often small, complex components using materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, brass, and engineering plastics.
- Approaching each job with efficiency and creativity, selecting appropriate machining strategies and programming cycles.
- Producing parts to high accuracy, taking responsibility for work quality and checking the end results.
- Assisting with external cost data collection related to CNC machining to support the departmental budget.
- Operating manual machines including lathe, manual mill, and surface grinder.
- Renewing and supervising maintenance contracts for CNC and manual machines.
- Performing scheduled machine and workshop maintenance tasks as per health and safety guidelines.
- Setting machines for unattended operation, often overnight, using pallet loaders.
- Supporting project managers with quoting, proposing solutions, and estimating machining timeframes.
- Participating in quarterly workshop forums, contributing actively, and completing assigned actions timely.
- Raising health and safety concerns with the Health and Safety Manager.
- Ensuring workshop equipment is calibrated and available for off-site calibration when needed.
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe work environment in collaboration with the Facilities team.
- Delivering SWP training on equipment such as pillar drills, bandsaws, and disc sanders, as well as new equipment as trained.
- Adhering to company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Promoting safety awareness and supporting colleagues in machinery operation.
- Willingness to learn new machining strategies and seek improvements in CNC services.
- Undertaking additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the DCA Board.

- Confidence in using CAM offline programming software; experience with Hypermill is advantageous.
- Experience with manual lathes, milling machines, and CNC machines.
- Essential 3-axis experience; 5-axis experience is highly desirable.
- Heidenhain programming experience is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Teams.
